Administrative ontologies are used in the Open Semantic Framework as a means to convey additional instructions to the system. Administrative ontologies, for example, may tell the system which types of widgets need to be invoked for different data types and attributes or provide background arithmetic or statistics. While administrative ontologies are different than the standard conceptual schema, generally known as domain ontologies, they are nonetheless essential to how such applications are used in the OSF design.
