MIME (or sometimes mime) (derived from Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extensions) is a specification that defines the content protocol for exchanging different kinds of data files on the Internet, such as audio, video, images, application programs, and various text formats and data structures. The MIME type tells parsers how to handle and interpret the accompanying file.
MIME types are specified in the header of Internet documents. MIME types are registered with the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
